through my previous post, i've stated that doing file replacement is dangerous and could hazard your  phone software if done carelessly but i never mentioned the safe method when doing the mods.

when downloading a shared mod file by any UIQmodder. amke sure you read the note attached with it. some file replacement method are unreverseable. so please be aware of the hazard that might come.

Big ben by cellphonesoft

Bigben

If you're looking for a phonelock software for your UIQ3 device that are customizable and doesn't require any hacking methods, I would strongly recommended this software. Its also run as a plugin for gdesk 0.33e.

Bigben functions as a lock for the phone and can be set to replace the stock phonelock. One little problem that I noticed when the phone is in lock mode. The phone doesn stay in sleep mode. Backlight keep on flashing up every time we touch or moves the phone. Its nothing much but it cos the battery more and surely interrupt the battery life while in use.

We can set the background for the lock. A few choices like using the theme background Or just set it to transparent which the background are clear to see or just choose your own picture. But make sure the picture is in certain resolution. I'm not sure the correct resolution that fits the most, so try to find it yourself. The default background is the bigben picture itself.

One thing I like about the software is, you can display the clock either in digital or analog. You can set to display appointment, task, reminder or just left it blank. The power is in your hand.

It doesn't as fancy as kwull iphonelock which has an animation when its unlock or being lock but it doesn't require you to do any hacking. all you have to do is jUst download the file and just install. Im writing through email so screen shot would be available soon.

more info for developing a gdesk plugin

to create your own plugin for the Gdesk apps, you have to have SE symbian development tool and gdesk plugin kit. if you go the sony ericsson website.well... it kills me everytime i read this

quotes from http://developer.sonyericsson.com/site/global/docstools/symbian/p_symbian.jsp

UIQ Technology was a jointly owned company by Sony Ericsson and Motorola and ceased trading during early 2009. As a consequence, all documentation, tools (SDKs) and supportive information hosted on UIQ Technology's servers is now unavailable.
The UIQ product line from Sony Ericsson is discontinued and therefore there will be no further maintenance of Docs & Tools for the UIQ Platform. Focus has moved to the new Symbian Foundation operating platform based on the S60 v5.0 Symbian™ OS.
so now i just focus on making apps just for my phone. hehe... as long as im happy with my phone.

If you want to get a smarphone from Sony Ericsson smartphone lineup, well other than window mobile and android platform. the other thing i reccoment is supporting the symbian foundation platform...
brows this web for more info.

other than that, i just want to repost an article from My-Symbian website on UIQ technology bankruptcy

Mon, 05.01.09

UIQ Technology files for bankruptcy
According to Reuters, UIQ Technology has filed for bankruptcy in a district court in Sweden. "There are no opportunities to create a new line of business in the current financial climate", said UIQ Chief Executive Johan Sandberg. This means that the darkest fears of UIQ phones' users became reality: the UIQ platform is now really and offically dead...

My-Symbian would like to thank all people behind UIQ for their hard work and giving us all such a great mobile platform. These 6 years will always remain an important part of history of mobile technology. We deeply hope that their intellectual and creative potential will not be wasted and that they will have another chance to impress us once again with great products, hopefully still Symbian OS based.

My-Symbian will continue supporting the UIQ platform, its users and software developers. If you have a UIQ phone and you're satisfied with it, keep using it! It won't stop working only because the company went bankrupt. Keep visiting our discussion forums and checking our UIQ3 Software Catalog for (hopefully) new and interesting software releases...

well, if you just want to have the taste of UIQ platform. You can get an UIQ phone. its cheap and reliable. But no further development will be done for the phone. Since my w960 purchase, i notice there were only 2 update available for my phone. there are customizable roms made by some modders available for download. flash at your own risk...

Gdesk 0.33e software plugin

I previously shared the gdesk 0.33e here. 0.33e version is very special. There's a few version of gdesk v0.33e out there that support different features. I can only share you this one.

The version that im using support page scrolling, flicking and page snap.

Well thanks to those great gdesk theme makers that added more plugin to the software.

Theres a plugin called -function server- created by CellPhoneSoft. The plugin only can achieve Its fullest functionality only with 4 application which you can search and download via the net @ http://cellphonesoft.com.

1. Swiss manager - for task manager and ram management.
2. Bunch lunch - to launch a few application at one time. Limited to 7 bunch list.
3. Tweak peaks - to optimise graphic acceleration.
4. Big ben - screen lock.

Mostly people now prefer ilock.
Ilock is a software that function like the apple screen lock and unlocking. Big ben apps is very hard to find since ilock are free and screen pix are customiseable.
